IN SHORT

If you cannot log in to the income tax e-filing portal (incometax.gov.in), use Forgot Password on the login page. For individuals, the user ID is your PAN, or your Aadhaar number if it is linked to your PAN. You can reset the password with an OTP to the mobile linked to your Aadhaar, an e-filing OTP to your registered email and mobile, a bank or demat account EVC, net banking, or a digital signature certificate.

How do I reset my income tax portal password?

MethodWhat you need
Aadhaar OTPPAN linked with Aadhaar, and the mobile number registered with Aadhaar
e-Filing OTPAccess to the primary email and mobile number registered on the e-filing portal
Bank or demat account EVCAn EVC generated through your bank or demat account
Net bankingPAN linked with your bank account, active net banking, and the net banking option enabled under e-Filing Vault Higher Security
Digital signature (DSC)A valid Class 2 or Class 3 DSC on a USB token, and the emsigner utility installed

Why does my CA need my portal login?

With your login, a CA takes your salary figures, TDS, interest and AIS straight from the portal, so you send far fewer documents. You send only what the portal does not hold.

How does QuickCA keep my login safe?

  • You never type the login into the chat. You get a one-time secure link that works for 24 hours.
  • The login is encrypted before it is stored.
  • Only the CA you choose can open it, and every time it is opened is recorded.
  • If you share it before choosing a CA and do not go on to file with QuickCA, it is deleted within 30 days.
  • When the portal sends you an OTP, your CA asks for it in WhatsApp and you reply in the chat.

Forgot your password and filing through QuickCA?

Tap Forgot password when the chat asks about your portal login and share your PAN. Your CA resets the password with you by OTP, and the filing carries on.

How long do I have to e-verify my return?

30 days from filing. You can e-verify on the portal, or post the signed ITR-V acknowledgement by speed post to the Centralized Processing Centre within those 30 days. A return verified late is treated as filed on the date it was verified.

Common questions

What is my user ID on the income tax portal?

For an individual, it is your PAN. If your Aadhaar is linked to your PAN, your Aadhaar number works as the user ID too.

My Aadhaar is not linked to my mobile. How do I reset the password?

Use another method: an e-filing OTP to your registered email and mobile, a bank or demat account EVC, net banking, or a digital signature certificate.

I do not want to share my login. Can I still file with a CA?

Yes. Tell your CA - they can guide you through filing it yourself. You will be asked for more documents, because they cannot be taken from the portal.
